Tattoo Studio
Project Details:
- Client: Tattoo Studio
- Location: Houston, Texas
- Scope: Asphalt shingle and modified bitumen flat roofing
Project Background:
This lovely tattoo studio is located right outside the heart of downtown Houston, off of Washington Ave. This property is a newly inducted member of the historical homes of Houston and will be ready for business shortly. The scope of work of our project included removing the old roof, installing new decking in rotted areas, repairing rotted framing rafters, and the installation of asphalt shingles and modified bitumen flat roll roofing materials.
This home was originally designed with a high pitched roof (12/12 pitch) and later an addition was constructed on the back of the property with an extremely flat sloped roof (less than 2/12 pitch). It is very important to reinforce the areas of the roof where high slope meets the low slope roof. These areas are susceptible to being damaged from repeated high speed water run off. To ensure this roof would be water tight for years to come the transition from high slope to low slope roof was reinforced with a number of materials. This transition area has ice & water shield, valley metal, and base and cap sheet modified bitumen to ensure there will be no leaks.
The shingles installed were Owens Corning TruDefintion Duration in Onyx Black accompanied with the RIZERidge hip and ridge shingles to give a high profile, classy look to this historical home. For slopes lower than 2/12 a modified bitumen flat roofing was installed. CertainTeed Flintlastic SA flat roofing materials were used in these areas to prevent any leaks from occurring in the future. As seen below, prior to the roof replacement, standard asphalt shingles were improperly used on this area of flat roof. The pipe jacks were replaced and upgraded to lead pipe jacks to provide the most durable option. As always, the pipe jacks and vents are caulked to prevent leaking and painted to match the roof and give a seamless look to the property.
